Strange Brew
Hello and Welcome!
Hubbie, Soo and Jeremy (off screen are Kate, Bob, Matt and Cat) Helping to put up the grape vines
Our History Strange Brew opened June 21, 1992 on Summer Solstice.
After years of having to drive hours to different cities to get the herbs and books that were needed, a very special opportunity opened up to me. My parents said- hey why don't you use that space in the back of the building to open up that shop you always wanted. Who could refuse such an offer?
That's how a dream was born. Family and friends all lent their hands to making it happen, converting an old fix-it shop into our own little hidden treasure. If someone came to visit, they were handed a paint brush, or a screw driver, or asked to hold a ladder. I was humbled at those who lent their time, and a few who even lent their own hard earned cash to help this happen. If you are reading this little missive- thank you- you made it happen and we are still here.
The dream was to have a place that held a timeless feel to it, part gypsy caravan, part apothecary and part occult shop. We wanted it to that place where you could get all your working tools, a supply shop.
At the time I'd been tattooing for only about 3 years. I set up a corner so I could take an occasional client and help supplement the business. Who knew it would take off so well? I found myself in short order, tattooing so much that I was unable to tend to the store. Merchandise dwindled, shelves grew dusty and Strange Brew the store, nearly came to an end.
That's when my father, John, came on board and saved the day once again. He came in, ran the counter and spent his time helping build things back up again. Dad's been with the shop for about a decade now and it's thanks to him that we are still here.
Today:
As of today there are now two artists working out of our shop- myself (Chimene) and Cat- who's work I'm hoping to have up here soon too. Dad still works here and our stock has grown by leaps and bounds. This year, we're trying to bring in some new things, more work from local artists and give our webstore a MAJOR face lift. We loved the look of the old site, but it had gotten increasingly less user friendly. With Ocean, our new provider (waves to John Wolf!) we've got so many possibilities that this site is going to keep morphing over the years bringing you more and more.
We are working to bring you the option to purchase our one of a kind items and artisan pieces. We are excited that now we will be able to better ensure that your orders can be met in a timely manner and that you won't find yourself in the occasional position where you've found an item is out of stock or mis-priced. In short, more efficiency, more information, more fun, and well- just more!
Soon we hope to bring you some other options such as purchasing the services of both an astrologer and a tarot reader- both quite excellent. We are also looking forward to bringing you classes that you can download for the cost of attending in person. In the plans we look forward to making our store more interactive- our dream being to help you feel that you are entering into a virtual world, that you've maybe stumbled down a famous little alley and found magic. We want you to enjoy coming to our on line store as much as you enjoy coming to the 'in real life' store.
Thank you for visiting our store, we hope you come back often. If you have ideas, feel free to send us suggestions.
Sincerely, Chimene, Strange Brew/ http://thecauldron.com
